Remind Messages

1. Senate grades will be earned according to the following weighted categories

Weighted Grade Categories
15% Final exam
15% In Class Assignments/ Participation
30% Community service
10% Senate Projects
20% Demonstration of school spirit
10% Participation with your graduating class

Any senator that earns below a “C” in senate, will be dropped from the class for second semester.

Student Body officers and Class officers may sometimes help with taking attendance, collecting assignments, etc., but all grading matters, including make up work, assigning of credit, and assessment will go through Ms. Chavez.

2. Senate members are expected to remain up to date on senate activities and news. This will be done through in class announcements, and

All senate members are expected to sign up for the senate account. See the links to the left. If you do not have a phone, you can sign up with your email address. Please ask Ms. Chavez for the email instructions. If you cannot do either, please know that you will miss out on vital information. Please find yourself a remind buddy, that can keep you informed.

It is optional, but suggested that all senators follow @cibolacougars and @cibola_senate on Twitter.

3. Again, to have seamless communication, you should check your email once a week. If an urgent email is sent out, a remind and a tweet will inform senators to check their emails. You must provide a working email on the Google Form.

4. It will be required that senators wear their senate T-shirts on certain spirit days throughout the year. Senate will sell chocolate to provide the T-shirts to all senators. Please indicate your T-shirt size on the Google form. Ladies, provide your size for a men’s T-shirt and for a women’s T-shirt.

You may opt out of fundraising. If you do not want to do fundraising, there will be a $15 opt out fee, that is due by September 21st.

5. Because you earn a credit for Student Leadership, attendance is important. It is your responsibility to sign in during class and at all senate activities. With the size of our senate currently at 200+ students, the instructor cannot remember who was present, and who worked what events, without accurate record keeping. Thank you for your help with this.

6. As student senators, you will be required to be an active part of the Cibola community. As part of this requirement, you must attend Cibola events. A minimum of 5 events will be required as a part of your final exam grades. It is your responsibility to prove that you went to events. Your proof may be event tickets, programs from concerts or plays, or selfies that you take at the events.

7. As student senators, you are required to complete community service. A minimum of 10 community service hours must be completed each semester. It is each senators’ job to maintain accurate records of their own service hours.

By filling out this application, you are choosing to participate in Senate for the 2017-2018 school year. In order to receive credit for Senate, participation in events outside of the school day is mandatory. Senate members are expected to be exemplary members of the CHS community, in spirit, behavior, ethics, and fellowship. Senate is a credit earning course and so absence/make-up work policies will be consistent with those outlined in the student handbook.
