Black History Month Fact of the Day:

Before Rosa Parks there was Claudette Colvin. Colvin refused to give up her seat to a white person on a Montgomery, Alabama bus and was arrested before Rosa Parks. Claudette Colvin's story didn’t get as popular as Rosa Parks due to many civil rights leaders believing her appearance and backstory not being good enough for the public to sympathize with her.

Black History Month Fact of the Day:

What/who actually started the civil rights movement? The beginning of the civil rights movement was traced back to the funeral of the tragically murdered 14 year old Emmett Till. His mother decided that his funeral should be open casketed so that people could see the horrors done to her son. Many future civil rights leaders attended the funeral, which ignited their fire to fight for civil rights.
