About Cibola

Cibola High School is a dynamic four-year comprehensive public school serving the needs of a diverse student body. With approximately 2200 students, Cibola takes great pride in providing a quality education in which students are prepared for graduation and beyond.

Curriculum

Students have a choice of taking 7 classes per year on our current schedule. This flexibility allows students to meet graduation requirements and to pursue elective courses that support career goals. Students are encouraged to take 4 years of language arts, math, science and social studies, as well as, 2 years of the same foreign language. Typical classes earn .5 credits per semester and most courses are 1 year long. Additional credits may be earned though taking courses at the APS Career Enrichment Center (CEC), community college (CNM), other post-secondary and to pursue elective courses that support career goals. As state graduation requirements change and the district proposes a common class schedule among local high schools, credits to graduate at Cibola will be adjusted accordingly. Current graduates need 25 credits to graduate.

Academic Programs

Cibola is proud of its academic programs. Special needs are addressed through Advanced Placement (AP), Honors, Inclusion and special programs such as our ISP (Intensive Support Program). AP courses are offered in Art, Language Arts, History, Psychology, Physics, Modern and Classical Languages and Math. There is something for just about everyone. Cibola students continue to score at or above the national and state levels on a variety of tests. It is part of Cibola’s continuous improvement process to increase student achievement and attendance through developing our Career Pathways program as a strategy to help students become more self-directed.

The advisory program at Cibola teams each student and their parents, with a staff member who updates the Next Step Plan and shares school- related information. Advisory meetings are scheduled each Fall and Spring and parents should expect to attend with their student. Credentialing and the NM Scholars program are two additional incentives for our students.
