January, 2018
Hello Parent and Student Cougars!
This has been a fast semester, and now we are hurtling toward a long winter’s break…just in time! This semester we have undergone a re-roofing to include main offices, library, C, D, E and F halls. The concourse is nearly done, and next semester we’ll begin with re-roofing the PAC and A Hall in January and February, B Hall in February and then the locker rooms, gym offices, auxiliary gyms, and then finally the full gymnasium over the summer. We’ve experienced some construction dilemmas and some highs and lows in classroom temperature as the new central heating and refrigerated air systems were slowly equalized, and next year, we should have a leak-proof school and comfortable, balanced temperatures in the classrooms. Thanks everyone for your patience through this project.
Speaking of school improvements, Cibola is set to get new LED lights all around the external building, so that we’ll see a more glowing school in dusk and evening hours. We’ll see some new shade structures and plants in the front entrance area of the school, and we may even….yes…a drumroll, please…see a brand new track be laid down this summer. We are working on updating audio visual systems in PAC and Gym, are researching what it may take to gain a new marquee for front of school, and whether we can gain support for an updated security camera system for our school. It’s a 1970’s school, and while we like legacy and tradition, we also need to bring in the new to make our building as strong as our tradition in excellence.
Instructionally, we continue to build academic confidence, increase student voice, and enhance achievement proficiency rates year to year. We are also working to heighten our graduation rate. Our 90 Day Plan is a continuous improvement model that is helping students to comprehend informational, non-fiction text and to work toward better understanding of mathematical, conceptual and reasoning expression as per our PARCC data review which showed two distinct areas for which our students were demonstrating overall less success. We are actively pursuing oue goals through a distinct action plan in every class this next semester.
We are working diligently for and with your students every day, and our greatest imperative is to see our students not just imagine their futures, but visualize a future in which they can see their aspirations form into reality in great and concrete detail.
It is with deliberate actions and structured organization that we set out each day to keep all students safe, emotionally and physically, and while events like the recent tragic occurrence at Aztec High School can shake our feelings of security and assurance, please know that you entrust your students into our care each day and we take that responsibility seriously.
Thank you for choosing Cibola High School, Home of the Cougars!
Season’s Greetings, Principal. Meyer

Due to higher class size numbers in most core classes this school year, Cibola High School will not accept transfers for the 2017-2018 school year.
We will review our class size numbers in late July or early August, 2017, and consider opening to transfers at that time, and will consider opening again to transfers in January 2018.
Students who are already attending at Cibola on previously approved transfers may continue at Cibola.
We appreciate your patience as we hold the integrity of the learning environment as our highest priority.
