Introduction to Ms. L-T:

Some of the following information is in my Parent letter posted on my website, some of this is "new":

This is my 4th year teaching high school in New Mexico, all at Cibola. I taught for 2 1/2 years in North Carolina from 1997 - 1999. For three years I taught under an Intern License here in NM while I pursued a dual license. I finished my coursework in April 2017, and now have my Secondary English Language Arts License and my K-12 Special Education License, both with a Theater Endorsement. I was recently granted my Level 2 teaching license.

I have recently become fascinated with Simon Sinek's philosophies toward business, and, interestingly, most of them translate quite well to a classroom. He has one "rule for success" that I feel makes me a better teacher, and helps students be more successful: be your own competition, compare yourself to yourself to work on constant improvement. My students know that is what I expect from them.  We write, then we rewrite. We take tests, then, if they want to improve their grade, they can research the correct answers. We do projects with class input about effectiveness. I hold my students to high standards; they hold themselves to high standards as well. My teaching joys come from my students challenging themselves to be their best then realizing that the work they have done has gotten them there.

I am married with three kids and two dogs. I love spending time with my kids, even if it is in the stands watching them do their sport. Sometimes I bribe them to come and do theater with me, which is one of my life passions.  I act, I stage manage, I direct, and I am on the Board of Directors at the Adobe Theater. Also, when I manage to make the time for it, I like to write.

I enjoy having your student in my class. I think I learn as much from him or her as they learn from me.

I plan to be using Google Classroom this year, and it will take me some time to get used to using it. Also, as I get organized, lessons will be loaded on to Synergy, with links, handouts, etc. connected to them. If your student misses a class, look at Synergy first, then Google Classroom for the assignments and lessons. Encourage your student to stay up on the work, missing work and getting behind becomes a mountain of frustration for students and becomes a roadblock to their success.
