March 2018

AP World History - This month we will be finishing Period 4: Global Interactions (1450-1750).  This Period focuses on the intersection of the Eastern and Western Hemispheres, the rise of Western Europe as a world power which results in European colonization of the Americas and Africa and this impact on the indigenous peoples of the Americas and the result of the Atlantic Slave Trade.  We will also cover the rise of Russia as a nation state and the decline of the East as a world power.  We will finish this Period by producing a Research Project of students chosen topics.

Ethnic Studies - This month we will continue working on Unit 3: Hegemony and Counterhegemony.  We will discuss cycles of oppression and liberation through the study of different movements including Feminism, Civil Rights movement, freedom movements outside of the U.S. (South Africa, India, Australia), LGBTQ, Chicanx, etc.  This will include methods and systems of oppression, how and why people mobilize to action, and methods of resistance.
