Hello Parents,

 

     Welcome to the new school year at Cibola High School! I would like to tell you a little about myself. I am state certified in Special Education grades K-12 and Regular Education grades K-8. My career, so far, has included teaching grades 1-12. This is my 32nd year of teaching and my 25th year of teaching at Cibola High School. I am teaching three small group World History classes, 1 English 9 small group class, and 2 US History small group classes.

English 9 Syllabus

2017-2018

Small Group English 9 Syllabus

Margie Barnett

 

  • Students will write up to a 5 paragraph theme. Students will write, peer edit using proof-reading marks, rewrite, edit with me, and then rewrite again, if necessary. Grading will include rubrics and class participation grades. Students will study proper paragraph format, punctuation, capitalization, grammar, and spelling.
  • Students will improve their reading skills by reading passages across different genres, answering comprehension questions, increasing vocabulary, etc.
  • State English tests will be administered with accommodations listed on IEPs
  • Student goals will include CCSS (Common Core State Standards), IEP Goals, and Modifications.
  • Materials include:

Tissues (optional)

Variety of Short Stories and Novels

  • Films and film clips will be shown rated PG13 or below.
  • Grades will include daily assignments, tests, and semester exams-worth 10% of their overall semester grade. Except tests, students can correct all assignments for a grade of up to 100%.
  • Students can come to my classroom to make up assignments or for extra help during lunch by appointment.
  • Homework- If students don’t get work done in class, or they are absent, they have homework.

  • Student goals will include CCSS (Common Core State Standards), IEP Goals, and Modifications.
  • All students will be given an EOC (End of Couse Exam) toward the end of the school year.
  • Students will be required to do reports from time to time. I would like for them to have a thumb drive for the purpose of transporting their work from computer labs to the computers in my classroom.
  • Materials include:
